Conflict - Lynn Gale

The photographer smiled sadly. 'Perfect,' he said as he started to pack away his equipment. 'A fine picture for your mother.'

'Will it make me look brave and strong?' The soldier brushed the front of his uniform he was so obviously proud to wear.

'Of course,' the photographer replied, 'and very dashing.'

How young he looks; another one who had lied about his age to enlist.

The photographer wrote the date on the last spool of film, July 16th 1917.

He turned to the young boy. 'Where are they sending you?'

'To a little village in Belgium,' the soldier said. 'A place called Passchendaele.'
