Writing for Fun

May 2018

Determination - Sue Barker

Right, we’ve been given the title of the next story for the writing for fun group. I go home full of enthusiasm, no ideas but plenty of hope. I sit and cogitate for an hour or so. Nothing comes to mind. I’m not worried there’s plenty of time.

Tomorrow I will definitely write my story I promise myself.

The next day comes as does an invitation to go out with friends, I go, and the story doesn’t get written.

A week flies by I promise myself that I will definitely write something soon.

The next week I’m going on holiday, I’m sure I will get time to write my story, I’m more than sure I’m definite.

Arrived back from holiday, no surprise that the story didn’t get written. I’m not worried I’ve got four more days I’ll definitely find time now I’m home.

I’d forgotten that I’d arranged to go to Brighton on the U3A trip and there’s a pile of washing after the holiday.

Oh no, the writing groups tomorrow and I’ve still to write my précis for my chosen book for the Literature group.

Its ok, keep calm, I know I’ll definitely write it over lunch with the girls before the writing group. What was I thinking, the chatter is too interesting to blot out and write my story.

Standing outside Jan & Pete’s flat, with no story written, I think that maybe I should have stayed at home.
