It Takes Two - Bob Wendelkin

'What do you mean you are late?' asked Tony of his girl friend Sonya.

'You know I'm a bit late,' was her reply.

'You were here with plenty of time, we should be able to get to the theatre with enough time,' replied Tony totally ignoring the way in which Sonya gave her reply.

'I'm not late in time, I'm late in another meaning – I'm a week or so late,' Sonya replied in a little more robust manner.

'You mean late?' said Tony as he pointed a finger at her tummy.

'Exactly, I'm late down there.'

'You can't be, you said you were taking precautions,' was Tony's reply as he looked away towards the window, his mind in a bit of a chaos.

'Well I did miss a few times.'

'Why didn't you tell me before?' said Tony with some annoyance in his voice.

'I couldn't because you would have gone up the wall, so I just thought we would be Okay,' replied Sonya as she looked him full in the face.

'You tricked me didn't you?' Tony snarled.

'No Tony I wouldn't do that, but I thought as we are going to get married it wouldn't matter so much.'

'Married. I don't think I ever thought we would ever get married, I thought we were just very good friends, matrimony was the last thing on my mind - if it happened, it would be years down the line,' was his reply.

'But you always said you loved me,' said Sonya with just the hint of a choke in her voice.

'Sure I did, it's just one of the things you say to someone you are about to, you know, anyway you always said the same to me didn't you.'

'Yes, I did but I meant it; it seems you didn't,' she snapped back.

'Before we go on have you been to the Doctors?'

'No I bought one of those test kits from Boots, and it turned the right colour to show that we have a family on the way,' replied Sonya.

'How do I know it's mine, have you been sleeping around with anyone else?'

'I wouldn't have done that, it was always you and me, have you been sleeping around while you were with me?' snapped Sonya.

'I'm not the one in the club, so what I've done or not done when I'm not with you is not an issue.'

'What are you going to do about it?' asked Sonya.

'What do you mean what am I going to do about it, I'm not the one in the family way am I. Are you going to get rid of it?' said Tony.

'What do you mean get rid of it, you are talking about a life – a part of you and me.'

'Well we can't get married,' said Tony.

'What do you mean we can't get married, you always said we would.'

'We can't get married because I'm already married, you were just my bit on the side, I always thought you knew that,' replied Tony.

'You mean all those things you said to me were lies. You Bastard!' shouted Sonya.

'Well you should know all about that as you are carrying one in there,' said Tony as he motioned to her stomach.

'When it's born it will be another one in the line of your family,' Sonya retorted.

'I'll help you to get rid of it, I know some people who can help,' said Tony trying to change the subject.

'Tony just go away, I'm sick of the sight of you, just go away,' said Sonya.

'But Sonya we can do it without any worries, now can't we,' replied Tony.

'Tony just Sod off, just P off,' snapped Sonya.

With that Tony could see that there was nothing for him that night, so he left. He started to think what he could do to correct the situation. I know I'll have a word with my sister, she should know what to do as she works in a Hospital.

A few days later he had made contact with his sister who was a Pharmacist in the local hospital. Tony was certain that she would be able to help him sort out the problem.

'Sis, I've got a problem, someone I know is in the family way.' said Tony to his sister.

'Is it yours?' asked his sister.

'I think so, as sure as any man can be that the child is his,' was Tony's reply.

'That's marvellous, when is it expected. Mum and Dad will be so happy to have a Grandchild to molly coddle. How is Mary, is she Okay not feeling too sick or anything?' smiled his sister.

'It's not Mary, I have a girl friend. And she tells me she is,' was Tony's reply.

'You have been cheating on your Mary,' retorted his sister.

'Well, only once after an office party, well, if I'm honest quite a few times, but she always told me she took precautions. But she lied to me, she didn't always. So now she is in the club,' said Tony.

'Who is she?'

'You know her, it's Sonya,' was his reply

'Not that stupid looking girl from your office, didn't she know you were married?' asked his sister.

'Well I told her I wasn't and that we could get married sometime,'

'You told the poor girl that, you are a perfect swine aren't you,' was his sister's answer.

'Sis, can you help me, you have access to all the drugs that can save this situation for me Mary and Sonya,'

'You want me to steal some tablets to get you off the hook. For what you have told me about cheating on your wife and on another girl, I wouldn't even bother to empty a bucket of **** over your head,' retorted his sister.

'Please Sis it's not for me it's for Mary and Sonya,'

'But not for your unborn child is it. I'll risk it but it's not to help you but to help the women in your life. I always respected you as a brother, but now I think you are just an ignorant pig with your mind no more than two foot six off the ground.'

'I won't take any tablets from the Hospital; I won't risk my job for you. I'll tell you what drugs you need and where to get them. But that's all. How long has she been pregnant?'

'Sonya I've got some tablets, I'm told that if you take them your problems will be over,' said Tony to Sonya.

'You want to cause a miscarriage,' said Sonya.

'It's the best thing, you being a single Mum, the baby not having the support of a dad. It's the best of two worlds. Believe me. I'm told that as you are not very far along you should only feel a mild discomfort as the tablets go to work.'

'I'll take them, because of the thought of bring a child into this world with you as its father is just too much. The world has enough gutless swines to be going on with, we don't need another, particularly if it inherits your genes,' shouted Sonya.

'That's right you know it makes sense. Now I'm told it takes two,' said Tony as he handed over the tablets.
