Dear Sir,
I enclose a photocopy of a painting recently bought at auction for £100,000 by the Gallery's house.
You should by now realise that this painting is missing from the Gallery and that I am absent from work.
I write because I have not seen in the press news of the painting's disappearance, and the people to whom I hope to sell the painting will not be convinced of its authenticity unless they believe it stolen.
Please therefore report it ASAP. Failing which I shall have to inform them myself, this of course may cause you some embarrassment, which you may prefer to avoid.
