As she wandered the garden she suddenly realised someone was watching her – turning she heard a slight gasp and rustle in the camellia bush. But parting the foliage only showed her bare earth – she could feel a presence though and decided to walk back to the house; feeling slight apprehension but not frightened she quickened her pace, difficult with the walking stick catching on the crazy paving.
Entering the French doors and turning quickly she was just in time to see an ethereal figure disappear behind the holly tree. Layla locked the doors and stood behind the curtain watching for a while, nothing else appeared and she decided she must be tired and imagining things. It was lonely since Martin had died, but the evening was balmy and she usually loved to sit and listen to the crickets and the local owl, but tonight she felt nervy so after a comforting supper she headed for bed.
Keeping the 'guardian' light on she drifted off to space in her huge four poster bed with its old fashioned feather eiderdown.
However, around 3am she woke and noticed the huge moon shining into her window; rising she walked over and looked out – there, drifting around the lawn were four 'ghosts'? She rubbed her eyes, no, definitely four 'people'? They were silver, shimmering as they floated above the pond and seemed to be throwing pebbles into it – this is one weird dream tonight she thought. Still she didn't feel afraid, just very curious as to what had brought this visitation, if that's what it was, and who by?
Next day she decided it had been some sort of daydream and went into the garden armed with her spade, trowel and bucket of water to plant the new clematis bought 2 days ago – 'Ouch, my back is killing me,' she exclaimed as she bent down to pick up the watering can, having dug a nice deep hole and installed the lovely plant – suddenly she felt gentle hands massaging her back! Again she turned but could see no-one, yet still the massaging hands caressed her back and the pain subsided. 'Thank you,' she whispered, collapsing into the swing seat and staring into space. Whatever this was she assumed it was not malevolent.
As she relaxed her eyes closed and she could have sworn she again felt hands, this time pulling her up and away. She was drifting now and looking down saw clouds beneath her! Then she saw them, yes, two strange looking creatures with huge green eyes but they seemed to be smiling and still holding her hands guided her towards a spaceship! No it can't be, this is crazy she exclaimed. Then she saw him – Martin, waiting for her with open arms – 'Yes dear, it's me, they came from the new planet just beyond Mars, needing intelligent life form to help them establish a new civilization, but I asked to wait for you; now we can go with them a million miles away to peace and tranquillity, and what's more our youth will be restored – sleep now until we arrive.
