Deception - Maureen Rampersaud

I was always letting Fred copy my homework, he was hopelessly disorganised and lived for the moment, without considering the consequences. However, I, Oscar Johnson, was content to play the long game to achieve my goals. I warned Fred that one day I'd ask for a sacrifice from him, in return for saving his bacon on numerous occasions.

Fred was one of those charismatic people who attracted others, especially girls, like bees to nectar. He was easy on the eye and had natural charm. I, on the other hand, found it almost impossible to talk to girls normally. I stuttered and blushed . . . so embarrassing! I wasn't bad looking in a Heathcliff sort of way and I was a whole lot cleverer than Fred.

It was only a matter of time until Fred announced his date with the prettiest – and brainiest girl in the school – Melissa Parks. My time was now! It didn't take long to persuade Fred to carry out my instructions . . . it was payback time. Although, he acted as if he'd sold his soul to the devil.

I met Melissa outside the theatre and explained that Fred was ill and he'd asked me to take his place so she would not be disappointed. She confessed that she was surprised that he was taking her to see 'Othello' as she put him down as an action film sort of a person. I told her it was my idea . . . she seemed impressed.

After the play I was more relaxed, it all went as I had planned. We went for coffee and there was lots to talk about, the main topic was deception . . . in the play, of course.
