On Thursday 19th December 2013 seven members gathered at my house for a special Christmas meeting.
The mince pies and wine set the atmosphere, but the stories themselves set the afternoon alight. As usual a vast variety of different takes on a single title, but what imagination flowed through this collection!
Seven stories, plus one from Gerry who was unable to make the meeting, which were good enough to grace any literary meeting anywhere - I am proud of my little group!
And why do we do it? The great Gustave Flaubert, a 19th Century author said:
No matter whether good or bad, it is a delectable thing, writing! Not having to be yourself, being able to circulate in amongst the whole creation that you are describing. Today for instance, as a man and as a woman, as lover and mistress both, I have been out riding in a forest on an autumn afternoon, and I was the horses, the leaves, the wind, the words that they spoke to each other and the red sunlight that made them half-close their eyes, eyes that were brimming with love.
