April 2012
Right let's have a new light on this a simple title.
E: now that could stand for lots of things: Excitement, thoughts of the kids opening up of their presents, my granddaughter seeing the sea for the first time. My eldest son at his marriage ceremony for the first time at fifty two. My youngest son's face when the surgeon at the hospital said I was OK and would not require chemo. Mind, that was more tears of relief that we both shared.
A: for Another perhaps, Afterthought, heart and the beauty of it all, well most of it; I still cannot understand the works, or can I use the word emperor's new clothes, of Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst and, I have to say it, Picasso, who I wouldn't give house room to. I am the simple type: colour and brightness; something I can recognise and enjoyed the placing of the characters and background. I have tried to paint at several classes since retiring, but although they seemed quite acceptable in the first years, now, well, if there was any talent it has flown away with the years of life.
S: hmm Surprises; I find them wonderful. They can be birthday treats, outings, holidays, but sometimes there is the simple delights of coming across a bunch of snowdrops all a very small bird singing its heart out aloft in the highest branch of a tree. Of course if you want to find all these simple things you have to go out with small children. They see so much that we take for granted, and more times walk over, not noticing. I remember my two boys, two and five, walking along a pier at Margate, bums up in the air looking through the boards to the sea, shrieking in delight. The trippers were not so pleased to see my bum stuck up there also, 'cos the kids ensure you take part and enjoy whatever they see as well.
T: make this a simple one, Tom Tom or Tom Tom the Piper's Son and Tom thumb, the Teddy Bears' picnic; I could go on all day; nursery rhymes and stories that kids want you to read to them time and time again and woe betide you if you missed a bit as they now know them all by heart.
E: again by Ergo, Etc., and Equation, Eruptions; I did mean volcanoes not those nasty spots or boils on your chin on the very day you had a date with the new boyfriend. I do remember mum teaching me to knit. I made this jumper with hearts around the neck and, as Valentine's Day arrived, I decided to wear it to a date; but it wasn't actually finished, I had completed only one sleeve, but I thought no one would see. The cinema turned very warm and Peter, the young lad I was with, wondered why, although I was sweating, I couldn't remove my coat. That is why it's great getting old, as now I couldn't have cared a fig; now that is an old fashioned Expression.
R: I suppose as it is a special time in the church calendar, Religion would be appropriate, but I'm not into all that sort of thing, but I had to admit to having a guardian angel; who seems to at times help me when I leave my door keys in the door for six hours going out and they are still waiting unused when I return. Crumbs how about R for Realising; I am writing such a lot of waffle here I think I am almost at my usual 500 words so I had better use the letter to spell Retire.
