Olivia Prepares - Diane Silverston

Olivia was lying flat on her back with Rocky in the garden, surrounded by trees and plants, giving her shade but allowing the sunlight to pierce through the foliage. She was in a bubble, a world of her own, a world of green . . . her favourite colour.

Olivia was a happy 3 year old, with brown hair and blue eyes, and Rocky was her favourite toy.

It was lovely and peaceful in her green hideaway. She had come here this morning because she needed to think things through.

Olivia had been really happy and busy this Summer. The weather had been good on the whole, and Mummy and Daddy had spent a lot of time with her. She loved the days she had spent with Gaga and Nanny, remembering all the activities and places they had done and seen.

But things were about to change, Olivia was feeling many emotions about this new experience that was going to start soon. She was preparing to start Pre-school. She was excited but nervous, happy but a little bit sad. What a strange mixture all bottled up inside her, like butterflies fluttering around.

Mummy and Daddy had said she would have a special uniform for the days she went, new and smart, the same as all the other children. She was looking forward to making new friends and having new adventures.

Olivia really loved books and finding out information, especially about insects and animals. She was sure that there would be lots of opportunities to study them, she was really excited about that.

Olivia was also feeling nervous, understandably, and a little sad. She hoped the new experiences would be good. It would be a challenge and she was prepared for that.

Olivia was lying with Rocky, flat on her back in the garden, in her special private world of green, almost in a dream but with a smile on her face.

Olivia was ready.
