Visitors From Space - Maureen Rampersaud

She was startled to see that the post she saw in the distance, moved. She squinted in the early morning sunlight, the being was moving in a repetitive sequence. What was it doing? Curiosity overcame apprehension and she decided to get closer.

It was using a claw to rake the oozy mud, then it picked out its prey and deposited it with a smaller claw into a black container. She shivered . . . the large claw looked menacing . . . she had been stupid to get so close, she had better report this sighting, it could be important.

She was about to turn back when she noticed a similar being slightly further away. She scanned the horizon and was horrified to see several of them, all clawing the mud. She hurried back, perhaps she was in real danger; they must hunt in packs.

Off the mud, at last, she called her family to rescue her. Luckily, she had hidden herself close to a sloping walkway, because two of them appeared from nowhere to start their macabre hunt. She switched to local language mode and listened.

'Yeah, I invested in some new tackle at 'Rightanglers' in the High Street.'

'I don't rate that place, 'Angling World' is much better stocked and Ian, the owner, really knows his stuff.'

'Oy! Mind where you're putting that fork, you nearly had my eye out.'

'Sorry mate.'

The voices faded as they moved away on their hideous rubberized feet. Her eye became moist with tears of joy and her hearts leapt when she saw the mothership's lights shine above her.
