Southend U3A

Celebration - Betty Davis

October 2011

They said it's a celebration, you really can't ignore
Must do something special now you've reached the ten and three score more.
Did they buy me wincey nighties before the pension book?
And talk to me so slowly with that patronising look?

They think I've booked with Saga for a slow trip on the Nile;
I've got some get real news for them, this oldies still got style.
I've bought myself a Lurex skirt, worn above the knee,
Added some matching trousers, 'cos veins don't look good on me.

My hair's streaked red and purple with colours that will glow;
Plastered on the pan stick, hope the wrinkles still won't show.
Spent hours in the mirror perfecting every move;
I can strut it with the best of them, I'm really in the grove.

I've got myself some ecstasy in case I start to slow
At my birthday celebration where the call is 'Go man go!'
I'm sure that I'll be noticed; they'll remember I was there
As I dance around me handbag and wave me knickers in the air.

I'll be stupendous, I'll be spectacular; yeah I'll really be too much
Recorded local history, the night I kicked the 18 to 30 disco into touch.
