Clapperboard - Joan Bond

February 2011

I am the photographer's assistant
I help out at weddings and such.
I flit through the guests, that pageboy's a pest,
but don't use the camera much.

I have to sort out the relations,
make sure that no one's left out
in the group photograph, then make everyone laugh;
That page boy will get such a clout.

Bridesmaids agog with impatience,
ladies in hats large and wide,
creations that they've sold their souls for,
but posed, other guests, they all hide.

Bride and groom pose with a nudge and a smile
I wondered what life had in store
course it's not new to them, they're living together
and have been for two years or more.

But as we walk from the reception
we still share a frisson of joy.
We've made some new friends, made a record for them
and made a few bob for the boy.
