Shopping - Annie Mouse

September 2010

‘If I Was a Rich Man’ as Topol sang in ‘FiddIer on the Roof.’ I would spend, spend, spend!!!

I would buy a house each for my two grandchildren - furnished with the grandest and the best and one staircase going up and another one coming down, of course!!!

Purchase a Houseboat on the Thames for my son and daughter-in-law to retire to, it’s their dream, well, it takes all sorts!!!

Buy us a villa in Spain, right on the beach in Marbella. Perhaps even get a small flat in Monaco!!! Take three or four luxury cruises a year, seeing the sights in all the major spots in the world.

I would adorn my beautiful granddaughter with so much bling she would look like a Christmas tree. And she would never want for make-up, designer clothes, up-market holidays, or anything else her heart desired.

My grandson would benefit too, of course, cars, clothes, perhaps even help to fund a school as he is going to be a Sports Master and this Government has kindly donated ‘Free Schools’ by Gove via the tax payer, of course.

I would buy us a Retirement Flat. It would be surrounded by a Sports Field where outdoor sports could be played, bowls, golf, croquet, tennis, swimming pool, plus indoor facilities such as badminton, a pool, darts, etc. A fully equipped clinic and a restaurant plus shops would form part of the indoor amenities. Perhaps we could run to buying a yacht, or even a private jet.

Would I give to Charity? Certainly not! They waste most of the money they obtain too easily. Most of it goes on expenses and salaries to line the pockets of people at the top, totally undeserving, in my opinion, and very little reaches the poor people for whom it is intended. On a wider scale, Britain sends money to the so called ‘Third World’ where fraud is rife and most of it goes on arms which are used to fight people in smaller countries for reasons, which mainly, are hard to understand. Lately, it was stated that we are even sending money to India and China, why, for goodness sake? Come to think of it I could become an M.P. adding money to my already huge pot - getting even richer with money taken out of the pockets of people who barely earn a living wage.

I really would like the experience of having a lot of money before I die, spreading largesse wherever I go. Hardly likely, so, until my ‘boat’ comes in, I will content myself with mundane things, like patronising Sainsbury’s, buying clothes in the High Street, frequenting the 99p shop and going on coach trips and theatre outings. But I can still dream can’t I?

And who knows, perhaps someday . . .
